The Transformation of Public Health Begins
It is a historic day in the health freedom movement, nationally and in Louisiana.
Today, we witnessed a seismic shift in public health policy, both nationally and in Louisiana.
The U.S. Senate voted 52-48 to confirm Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services! After weeks of advocacy — THOUSANDS of calls and emails — from Louisiana and across the country, Louisiana’s U.S. Senators Kennedy and Cassidy both voted YES to confirm RFK Jr.!
Thank you!!
In a brief ceremony in the Oval Office with President Trump, RFK Jr. took the oath of office, administered by Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch. Watch the ceremony below.
President Trump signed an Executive Order establishing the Make America Healthy Again Commission which will begin to expose and dismantle the inner workings of our corrupt federal health agencies and the role they play in fostering the chronic disease epidemic our country faces. Here are some of the highlights of the EO:
(a) all federally funded health research should empower Americans through transparency and open-source data, and should avoid or eliminate conflicts of interest that skew outcomes and perpetuate distrust;
(d) agencies shall ensure the availability of expanded treatment options and the flexibility for health insurance coverage to provide benefits that support beneficial lifestyle changes and disease prevention.
(vii) ensure transparency of all current data and unpublished analyses related to the childhood chronic disease crisis, consistent with applicable law;
(ix) restore the integrity of science, including by eliminating undue industry influence, releasing findings and underlying data to the maximum extent permitted under applicable law, and increasing methodological rigor; and
(x) establish a framework for transparency and ethics review in industry-funded projects.
While we anticipate incredible change in the coming weeks from Secretary Kennedy and his team at HHS, we were very thankful to see a new policy statement on informed consent, vaccines, and personal freedoms from Louisiana Surgeon General Dr. Ralph Abraham.
Read the complete public statement here, but here is a short excerpt:
For the past couple of decades, public health agencies at the state and federal level have viewed it as a primary role to push pharmaceutical products, particularly vaccines. Some have even referred to this practice as the “cornerstone” of public health. There are some appropriate examples of government recommendations, such as encouraging routine screenings like colonoscopies or Pap smears and facilitating access, especially for the poor. But promotion of specific pharmaceutical products rises to a different level, especially when the manufacturer is exempt from liability for harms caused by the drug, as is the case for many vaccines. It is understood that the products pushed will benefit some and cause harm to others, but public health pushes them anyway with a one-size-fits-all, collectivist mentality whose main objective is maximal compliance.
Under this ideology, the sacrifice of a few is acceptable and necessary for the “greater good.”
Additionally, Dr. Abraham issued a policy statement to LDH that emphasized informed consent, which is currently absent when vaccines are presented to patients in hospitals or clinics. The CDC encourages the use of something called “presumptive language,” meaning the clinician will speak to the parent or patient as if acceptance is presumed. See the examples below from the CDC website.
Presumptive language is the antithesis of informed consent.
Here is a portion of the new policy issued today:
Informed consent is foundational to vaccination.
Conversations about specific vaccines, and whether or not a vaccine is right for a specific person, are best had with the individual's healthcare provider, who best understands their individual situation and relevant medical history.
Vaccines should be treated with nuance, recognizing differences between seasonal vaccines and childhood immunizations, which are an important part of providing immunity to our children.
It is important that healthcare providers discuss the risks and benefits of vaccines with parents, answering all questions and concerns based on scientific evidence.
Getting vaccinated, like any other health procedure, is an individual's personal choice.The State of Louisiana and LDH have historically promoted vaccines for vaccine preventable illnesses through our parish health units (PHUs), community health fairs, partnerships and media campaigns. While we encourage each patient to discuss the risks and benefits of vaccination with their provider, LDH will no longer promote mass vaccination.
Having experienced healthcare at its worst during covid, we look forward to an era where informed consent takes center stage.
We thank Dr. Abraham and Deputy Surgeon General Dr. Wyche Coleman for their continued efforts to transform public health in Louisiana with transparency and integrity.
