Friends, let’s get back to work!
The legislative session began this week and we have our first call to action with a new legislature and a new governor! I have a sneaky suspicion that we might get some health freedom bills finally signed into law!!
I want to give you a rundown on the bills we are tracking that have been filed so far - not all have been filed yet - but first, let’s do a call to action on TWO bills in the House Civil Law and Procedure Committee on Monday, March 18th! These two bills work in tandem together to protect businesses, employees, schools, and students from vaccine mandates.
HB25 by Rep Danny McCormick is a repeat of a bill that passed both chambers in 2021 only to be vetoed by Edwards. HB25 will remove the threat of civil liability from those business owners who DO NOT mandate covid vaccines for employees and customers.
HB87 by Rep Michael Echols ensures that those entities that DO mandate covid vaccines take on the civil liability of resulting injury or harm.
Historically, business owners have NEVER been burdened with the task of eradicating or minimizing transmission of a respiratory virus on their property. It was common sense that people took responsibility for their own health. In 2020, the Louisiana legislature created a dangerous tort situation when it passed laws requiring business owners and schools to follow COVID public health guidelines or face possible litigation. These two pieces of legislation, HB25 and HB87, will get businesses, schools, and the general public back where we left off in February of 2020.
Hit the link below to send a message to the House Civil Law and Procedure Committee to support these two bills!
