Legislative Update: Wednesday, April 17th 🇺🇸
The coroner bill, A Voice for the Voiceless, is on the House floor today!
Before we update on yesterday’s wins, send a message to your state rep NOW for HB288!
HB288 by Rep Beryl Amedee, a bill we call A Voice for the Voiceless, will go before the full House TODAY for a floor vote! Coroners are already required by law to investigate the unexplained deaths of infants one year of age or less. HB288 would simply require that they include immunization history in the autopsy.
Please send a message NOW and ask your state rep to vote YES on HB288!
Also, in committee today, April 17th. . .
In Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee this morning is SB357 by Senator Alan Seabaugh. SB357 adds clarifying language to the existing law that allows the legislature to end a declared public health emergency. You may recall the Seabaugh Petition brought by the bill author in 2020 to end the covid public health emergency. Senator Seabaugh brought that petition under the authority of the law he hopes to amend and clarify with SB357.
Similar legislation passed years ago but was vetoed by Edwards, so we do not anticipate any trouble for this bill to pass.
Now for yesterday’s wins and a HUGE Call to Action!
HB813 by Rep Kathy Edmonston made it out of Health and Welfare after a battle with the committee! Rep Edmonston had great reinforcements in her fight for the bill with the help of local physician, Dr Evelyn Griffin, at the table with her. HB813 was amended in committee so currently it will prevent interference from medical boards in physician’s right to prescribe off-label.
We will let you know when HB813 hits the House floor!

HB958 by Rep Beryl Amedee prohibits kickbacks from insurance companies to incentivize vaccine uptake, like the ones in the insurance graphics below.
Rep Amedee did a wonderful job in committee relaying the instances of familes being removed from pediatric care for the parents choosing not to vaccinated BUT members of the committee commented that they had never heard of this happening so it was an extremely tight vote: 9-8. 😳
We need help from you and a form email just won’t do!
This is the Call to Action:
If you have been “fired” from pediatric care simply for choosing not to vaccinate your child, email the committee members and your state legislators and let them know, briefly, your story. Yes, this bill made it out of committee, but some members did not believe that this is happening. Let’s change their minds and get their support when the bill hits the House floor! We have included our email in the list below — we will compile these emails for the senate hearing. Thank you for doing this! And please name names!! They need to know that doctors are doing this.
