December 6th Capitol Showdown: The Two Year Anniversary
Never forget what persistent and effective advocacy can do.
Two years ago, parents and medical professionals from across the state converged at the Louisiana Capitol to make known their disgust with Governor John Bel Edwards’ and the Louisiana Department of Health’s (LDH) attempt to add the covid vaccines to the required list of immunizations for school attendance in Louisiana.
The House Health & Welfare Committee hearing lasted eight hours and Health Freedom Louisiana was there for all of it! It began with testimony by Attorney General Jeff Landry, followed by his guest, accomplished attorney Robert F. Kennedy Jr, Founder of Children’s Health Defense, their Chairman of the Board as well as Chief Legal Counsel (currently on leave to focus on his presidential run). Fortunately for us, Robert Kennedy Jr. had asked the incredibly talented and brilliant Dr. Robert Malone to attend as well. Though he didn’t testify, his presence spoke volumes. He even wrote about his visit on his own substack. Testimonies were then given by members of the legislature and the public. Citizens were not done testifying when the committee voted mid-day to overturn LDH’s administrative rule change to add the vaccine. (Success!) Only two committee members voted against overturning the rule; they were Democrats, of course: Robby Carter and Dustin Miller. Even after the vote, citizens from across the state stayed late into the day waiting for their turn to speak. The takeaway?
1. People want to have their voices heard.
2. People have the power to make a difference when enough SHOW UP.
There were so many testimonies, it was amazing! Here is the entire 8 hour committee hearing with timestamps below and clips of some of the highlights:

7:27:07 After eight hours of testimony, Tori Hymel was the last person to speak. She covered legal authority, the rights afforded to us by the US Constitution, the LA Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence:
While it was a tremendous, powerful, and successful day, it unfortunately didn’t end there. Edwards, bolstered by the vaccine zealots at LDH (who have yet to evaluate covid vaccines independently), and with blatant disregard for the legislature and the public’s opinion, vetoed the committee’s December 6th ruling. The following 2022 legislative session was a tumultuous one, including the May 11, 2022 Senate Health and Welfare Committee hearing where Chairman Senator Fred Mills, a pharmacist and fellow vaccine zealot, refused to vote for Chairman Representative Larry Bagley’s resolution to suspend JBE’s vaccine requirement, even after hearing testimonies from Attorney General Jeff Landry and Dr. Malone. Dr. Malone was even generous enough to let Fiorella do a guest post on his substack in April of that year to help keep the fight and pressure going. Finally, and only because of the unrelenting legal, political, and public pressure, Edwards and LDH dropped the rule that added the covid vaccine to the required list for school. When the threat was finally extinguished, Dr. Malone wrote an article about the entire experience. The takeaway?
Persistent and effective advocacy from the public wins!
