After yesterday’s unbelievable vote on HB648, Louisiana children and children in surrounding states are left vulnerable and unprotected from horrific and unethical treatments deemed “gender affirming care.” The tie vote in the Senate Health and Welfare committee was broken by Republican Senator Fred Mills who voted with the Democrats on the committee to involuntarily defer Representative Gabe Firment’s proposed legislation intended to protect minors from this experimental treatment. This means one lone Republican determined the fate of this legislation after it received bi-partisan support in a 71-24 vote on the House floor last week.
If this committee vote is left to stand, Louisiana becomes a sanctuary state for the physical/genital mutilation and chemical castration of minors since surrounding states have passed legislation to protect minors from this type of “care.”
The vote has made national headlines as conservative legislators across the country have taken enormous strides in protecting minors from this traumatic treatment.
But all is not lost…
There is a parliamentary procedure that allows the bill to be brought to a vote before the entire senate, but your State Senator and the Senate President need to hear from you TODAY!
Call your State Senator! Don’t have your senator’s number saved? Find it here.
Call Senate President Page Cortez: (225) 342-9990
Ask them to bring HB648 before the full senate for a vote and protect Louisiana children from “gender affirming care.”
I called‼️‼️
I will call first thing Monday morning and request that HB648 be moved for a floor vote. Republicans currently have a super majority in both chambers to override a veto by JBE so let's get this done NOW!
