Friends, there are some big action items on the agenda for TODAY! Take a look!
On the House floor today…
I testified in Health and Welfare last week in opposition to HB471, but it had significant help getting out of committee by the lack of decorum displayed by another individual (minute 20:22) in committee. A word of advice for anyone testifying on legislation: stick to the attributes of the bill. This is a bad bill and the specifics of the bill alone are enough to kill it. Now, let’s get to work killing this bill on the floor!!
Please contact your Rep NOW and ask them to vote NO on HB471!
Rep Amedee is bringing back HB152, the Parental Rights Constitutional Amendment, after an interesting first attempt where most legislators seemed confused about what they were voting for and no questions were offered from the floor.
Please contact your Rep NOW and ask them vote YES for HB152!
Now for the Senate…
We aimed for the stars with Louisiana’s No Patient Left Alone Act! The last three years have taught us that reform MUST be made to ensure humane treatment of our loved ones while hospitalized or in long term care. The Senate Health and Welfare Committee took issue with the proposed legislation. One senator, Senator Jay Luneau, even stated that patients did not die alone as they had hospital staff with them. The bill as the senate amended it goes before the full senate for a vote today and Rep Chuck Owen has a proposed amendment that will add better access to patients by family members and loved ones by simply changing the “may” to “shall” in each section. We will aim for the stars again next year when we have a new legislature and a new governor!!
For now, please contact your senator and ask them to vote FOR the AMENDMENTS proposed on the Senate floor.
